| | Hubby and I took a trip to St. Louis this past weekend and had a wonderful time. Though it's a bit of a drive (6 hours), it's a straight shot on I-44 all the way, so it's not bad. I hadn't known about how many manufacturers there seemed to be along that route. St. Louis is absolutely beautiful right now with it's rolling hills and trees. We thoroughly enjoyed and highly recomend the following: www.mobot.org I'd never seen a banyon tree nor such a huge Gingko Biloba, the veggie garden boasted lettuce to be envious of -- beautiful curly leafed red varieties have definitely provoked me to 'lettuce envy' :) and gorgeous broccoli and cabbages and espaliered pears and apples! We only saw a tiny fraction though we were there for hours. This is one supremely gorgeous collection of gargantuan gardens well worth the entrance fee! www.budweisertours.com www.nps.gov Forest Park is gorgeous, we parked the car there and took the metro to the Arch and back. On the way back, the Cardinals fans squished us in like sardines in the metro, but it was all great fun. Public transit really is a wonderful thing to have access to. This morning I was thinking about how my hubby and I met in the Army all those years ago and how one thing I liked about the military was the opportunity for travelling. The past few recent trips have been great after many years of NOT travelling, it's nice to have been able to go to Michigan and now St. Louis in less than a month. Blessings, Carrie who needs to weed her gardens now after all the rains, warm weather and traipsing off. Turnips and garlic are almost ready, roses are beautiful now, sage continues to bloom, clematis is blooming and climbing it's trellis, winter squash is on its 3rd set of leaves, lima bush beans just sprouted, carrots sprouted, cannas are extremely happy and prospering this year, climbing rapidly, hibiscus up about 3 feet, little apples on my first apple trees (planted just 2 years ago), lots of dill and oregano and thyme, little green tomatoes on a few plants, peppers growing, and the Lord watered everything last night for me. |
